Taliban Fighters Parade Pakistani Soldiers’ Pants Amid Border Clashes; 48-Hour Ceasefire Declared
KABUL/ISLAMABAD, October 16, 2025 — In the aftermath of intense border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, viral images have surfaced showing Taliban fighters parading the trousers of Pakistani soldiers reportedly abandoned during the fighting. The symbolic display, described by observers as a moment of humiliation for Islamabad, took place in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province.
The clashes, among the deadliest since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, prompted both nations to agree to a 48-hour ceasefire beginning Wednesday at 13:00 GMT. While Pakistan’s foreign ministry claimed the truce followed Kabul’s request, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated it was Islamabad that insisted on the pause in hostilities.
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk welcomed the ceasefire and urged both parties to protect civilians and work toward a lasting peace.
Humanitarian organization Emergency NGO reported receiving multiple casualties in Kabul following cross-border shelling. Pakistani officials confirmed the ceasefire was holding overnight, with additional troops deployed to maintain stability along the frontier.
The now-viral image, shared by BBC journalist Daud Junbish, shows Taliban fighters holding “empty trousers” allegedly recovered from Pakistani military posts—an image that has quickly become a powerful, if controversial, symbol of the escalating tensions between the two neighbours.
