Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will participate in the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit virtually, as confirmed following a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his decision to attend the summit online due to ongoing Deepavali celebrations in India. Prime Minister Anwar expressed his understanding of the decision and extended festive greetings to the people of India.

The ASEAN Summit, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, is a key platform for dialogue and cooperation among Southeast Asian nations and their partners, including India and the United States. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s continued commitment to the ASEAN-led regional architecture and emphasized New Delhi’s dedication to strengthening ties in areas such as trade, connectivity, and regional security.

While the Prime Minister will not be traveling to Malaysia, India will be represented at the summit by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Discussions are expected to focus on regional economic recovery, energy cooperation, and collective efforts toward maintaining a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

India remains committed to deepening its strategic and economic partnerships with ASEAN member states and global partners, reinforcing its role as a vital stakeholder in regional peace and prosperity.
