Fans of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, who got excited at the announcement of the couple doing a film together, might have to wait for some more time. Abhishek and Aishwarya aren’t doing any Sanjay Leela Bhansali film together. SLB’s next was a biopic which was based on poet and Bollywood lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. After a few weeks, the couple backed out of Anurag Kashyap’s production Gulab jamun because of creative differences which happened over the script.
According to a source,
“Aishwarya is not doing the biopic on Sahir Ludhianvi opposite Abhishek. In fact, nobody from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s side has not even approached her for it. So, she was shocked to hear reports of her having signed the film. While she has great regard for Bhansali, having worked with him in some great films like Devdas and Hum Dil Chuke Sanam, she is not doing the biopic. She is considering a couple of announcements which should be coming soon but the biopic is not one of them.”
Aishwarya and Abhishek were last seen together sharing the screen in Umrao Jaan (2006), Guru (2007) and Raavan (2010). If they were to share the screen in this biopic, it would have happened after nine long years. Abhishek would have played the role of Sahir Ludhianvi, who wrote in Hindi and Urdu. Aishwarya would have essayed the role of popular Punjabi poetess, novelist and essayist Amrita Pritam.
Previously there were also rumors making rounds that Shah Rukh Khan or Irrfan Khan would play Sahir’s character. Abhishek was in talks with the team some years ago to play Sahir’s character onscreen. And the actresses opposite him approached were PC and Deepika Padukone, but things didn’t work out.
According to some other reports, Abhishek was approached again to play the role and Aishwarya was approached to play Amrita Pritam’s role. The source also added
“Aishwarya wonders where these rumors are coming from as she was never approached for the biopic so where does the question of her role come into it? She has no clue who is spreading these rumors and apparently, Bhansali himself has expressed keen interest in casting Alia Bhatt for the role of romantic, sensitive and spirited Amrita Pritam”.
This is an unusual love story between the poets. Amrita and Sahir met in 1944 at a mushaira in a village named Preet Nagar and the village was located between Lahore and Delhi. Amrita was already a married woman so her relationship with Sahir grew through poetry and love letter which the two wrote to each other. Sahir was residing in Lahore at the time, but the distance between the two was never a barrier when it came to falling in love with each other. They created romance through poems, and yet their love was not to sustain a forever. Sahir never gave his word, and Amrita’s love remained an unrequited love. Amrita finally found comfort when she got with artist and writer Imroz and spent the final years of her life with him.
