One of the
most beautiful flowers is the Lotus. People who love gardening have all types
of plants in their garden. We love producing the flower of love –Rose. Some
plant different kind of flowers also. But the flower that enhances the garden
is the Lotus.
In Hinduism Lotus
symbolises divine, immortality in humanity and divine perfection. It is the attributes
of the sun and the fire gods. It represents purity of the body, speech and mind
in Buddhism.
There are
two species of the exotic flower - the Asian Lotus and the American Lotus. The huge
leaves are borne on strong and thick stems that rise up to a metre above the water.
They get settle and rest on the water after a few days.
It is very
easy to plant the flower in your garden though it requires a little care. Warmth
is very essential for the growth of the flower from the very beginning. The root
of the lotus is known as the tubers. If the tubers are too cold it may cause
the tubers to rot before it takes roots. Once the tuber is ready for planting, plant
the flower but the location of the planting should be sunny place far from
flowing water.
Next you
have to take a pot, as the growth of the lotus depends on which it is planted. Fill
the chosen pot with soil and the tuber. After that you can place the pot into
the water garden. It should be 6-12 inches below the water surface.
Lotuses are
very slow- growing plants initially. The young leaves will start out by
floating on the surface. It may take 2- 3 weeks after being planted. You can
also start feeding the plant after this if you want to.
Special care
must be taken during the winter season. You can lower the container to the
bottom of the water. This will make your lotus to survive in the chilly
weather.
