As lakhs of migrants find themselves helpless amidst the pandemic, actor Sonu Sood has come to their aid. He arranged for buses and till now has been able to send thousands home. When asked as to why did he take the step, he had told a publication, "It gave me sleepless nights when I saw visuals of people walking hundreds of kilometres to reach their villages."
Now, Swara Bhasker too, has joined this mission. Along with her team, she collected data of migrants wanting to go home and ensured that all of them got train tickets. Till now, she has helped send 1,350 workers back to their homes in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
In an interview with a channel, she had said that she felt ashamed sitting in the comfort of her home while the migrants pleaded for help.
Amitabh Bachchan has arranged buses to send migrants home.
He also donated food packets and 20,000 PPE kits at various locations in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Sood has launched toll-free number—18001213711—for migrants through which one can reach out to his team for help. He explains the reason for starting this number, "I was getting a lot of calls... thousands of calls every day. My family and friends were busy collecting the data then we realised we might miss out on a lot of people who we will not be able to approach us. So we decided to open this call centre, it is a toll-free number," he told a portal.
The actor now has a dedicated team working on addressing this issue, and they are trying to reach out to maximum people and contact every person. However, the actor still spoke of the limitations of such a move, "We don't know how many people we will be able to help, but we will try."
