As the last resort, Nirbhaya case convict goes to Supreme Court

One of the four convicts, Vinay Sharma, in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court as the last legal option against the death penalty. Two days after the Delhi court declared that all four accused to be hanged on 22nd January at 7 am, Vinay Sharma, now 26, approached the top court.

In his petition, Vinay Sharma said, "To eliminate systemic and political bias against the Petitioner, it is imperative that this case be reheard in open court by the senior-most judges of this Hon'ble Court without the Damocles sword of an execution warrant handing over the proceedings."

According to order, the death warrant has to be executed within 14 days and that's the only time given to the convicts to look for other legal options. After the death warrant, all four apparently broke down in the jail.
