After almost a month-long game of Yay-or-Nay, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited film Padmavat (earlier Padmavati) may hit the screens this Republic Day. According to some sources, Padmavat(i), which has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, will be released all over India on 25th January 2018. However, an official announcement of the release is yet to be made.
The period-drama was planned to release on 1st December last year but the project got delayed due to serious opposition from the Rajput community of India. Padmavat(I) was then screened for a special CBFC panel which approved the film with five cuts. The panel which consisted of a historian certified the Deepika Padukone-starrer as U/A.
From the change in the title to some modifications in Ghoomar song sequence, the certification board has tried to satisfy the demands of the social communities as well as the producers. The production team has also been directed to add two disclaimers stating that the film does not advocate historical facts or support Sati-pratha.
For the uninitiated, Padmavat(I), starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the leading roles, is a film inspired by Rani Padmavati of Chittor. It will clash with Akshay Kumar's Padman on the box-office.
Team Padman had already announced the date earlier and seem to be taking the inevitable clash in their stride. One of the Padman producers, Prerna Arora, gave a statement to a leading news agency, stating, "I am clueless what is happening... with clash. I have no idea about it. Even we have heard about it. All we know is Padman is releasing on January 25. Akshay announced it officially".
Padman stars Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in the main roles.
