Kesari, that features Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles has a roaring start at the box-office. The war film, on its opening day, collected Rs 21.50 crore to emerge the biggest opener of 2019 thereby beating films such as Gully Boy (Rs 19.40 crore) and Total Dhamaal (Rs 16.50 crore) by substantial margins.
According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film picked up the pace in the evening shows after limited shows in the morning and afternoon.
Sharing the film’s opening-day figure, Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, his Tweet read;
“#Kesari roars... Sets the BO on... Emerges the biggest opener of 2019 [so far]... After limited shows in morning/noon [#Holi festivities], the biz witnessed massive growth from 3 pm/4 pm onwards... Evening shows saw terrific occupancy... Thu ₹ 21.50 cr. India biz.”
Keeping in view the current trend, Kesari will witness a great growth on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to pack a phenomenal first-weekend total. The collection could well be in the range of Rs 65 crore-75 crore, which, by all means, is a fantastic figure. With no big releases in the coming week, the film has ample time to make it big at the Box-Office.
Upon its release on March 21, Kesari received a positive review from movie critics across the country. The word of mouth is largely in the film’s favor, that appears to have greatly influenced its box-office numbers.
Kesari, co-written and directed by Anurag Singh, is based on 1897 Battle of Saragarhi that saw 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian contingent fighting against 10,000 Afghan invaders. Before attaining martyrdom, the Sikhs had managed to kill 900 of their enemies. The military combat is considered the bravest and the deadliest ever in the history of mankind.
Kesari, jointly produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Azure Entertainment has been made with an estimated budget of Rs 80 crores.
