In a major development to aware the drivers on road to reign in their speed within the prescribed speed limit, Chandigarh Traffic Police has finally installed online speed sensing radar. The main objective of the installed radar on the dividing road near Sector 9 and 10 is to control over speeding vehicles that lead to major collisions resulting in fatal accidents. WHAT IS A ONLINE SPEED RADAR It is an interactive digital signboard which displays the speed of the approaching vehicles. It reads ‘slow down’ when the speed crosses the prescribed speed limit. https://www.facebook.com/facebook/videos/10153231379946729/ The installed online speed radar is a 40-inch digital screen that will tell the driver their present speed. If the speed crosses the prescribed limit the radar prefixed with night vision camera will automatically click the image of the overspeeding car and send it to the Traffic Headquarters in Sector 29, Chandigarh. Thus the violator will be liable for legal action as an e-challan will be sent to his residence. Earlier two policemen used to sit 100 meters ahead of a Naka (police barricading) with a handheld speed radar gun on the footpath and inform the officials of the car violating the speed limit, hence the car driver was given a challan then and there. But since police cannot always be present on a single point, advancement of such technology will help traffic administration to keep a regular check through new online speed radars. Right now, the radar installed at Sector 9,10 is on trial bases and further 9 more machines will be installed on different locations in Chandigarh.
