You all must have noticed that while sleeping, your brain creates many stories. Most of the time these stories or dreams are linked with our own mental thinking. Some dreams are like a fairytale, while some other are no less than a nightmare. Are you suffering from anxiety? are you used to see bad dreams during sleep? By doing this researchers found that people who went with image therapy felt relief from sleep time disorders. Image therapy is a technique which involves altering the content of nightmare by creating a new set of positive images and rehearsing the rewritten dream scenario while awake. Other treatments for night time disorder includes hypnosis and medicinal therapies. This disorder includes repeated occurrences of nightmares which cause distress and impairment. 4% of youth is affected by this disorder. It can also impair quality of life. Nightmare disorder can exacerbate an underlying mental illness, such as depression or anxiety. The first step to get help for nightmares is to discuss this concern with a doctor, who may refer you to an accredited sleep centre for a comprehensive sleep evaluation by a board-certified sleep medicine physician. Effectively treating nightmare disorder can improve sleep quality, resulting in less daytime sleepiness and improved alertness.
