DEEPIKA PADUKONE REPLACES KIRAN RAO AS MAMI CHAIRPERSON

Deepika Padukone is one of the highest paid actresses in the B-town. Last year she gave an outstanding performance in the epic drama Padmaavat. The film which also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the leads became one of the highest grossing films of the year 2018. Now, we have good news as the actress has now added a new feather to her crown.

Deepika Padukone has replaced Kiran Rao as the chairperson of the annual Mumbai Film Festival, as per the report, The decision was made after a recent meeting of the board of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image, which organizes the festival. 

A source close to the actress; 

Among the factors that contributed towards Padukone’s selection are her notable evolution into a credible actor, her connection with the audience across the globe, especially with youth, and her incredible work to create awareness about mental health in the country”,. 

The actress told to a leading daily;

“It is an absolute honor and a huge responsibility, I believe in MAMI’s vision and we are committed towards creating a community that cinema lovers and creators of a film passionate nation like ours truly deserve.”


Kiran Rao replaced Shyam Benegal as chairperson back in the year 2014. The festival director is journalist Anupama Chopra, while Smriti Kiran is the creative director. The festival’s title sponsor is Jio, and the MAMI board includes Nita Ambani and her daughter, Isha Ambani as proud sponsors. The board also includes some of the greatest filmmakers of Hindi cinema such as Karan Johar, Rohan Sippy, Vikramaditya Motwane and Zoya Akhtar.

MAMI is one of the most prestigious film festivals of India and it has given a platform to many aspiring filmmakers. Now when we have Deepika Padukone on the panel, we hope that more independent filmmakers will be coming out with their bold stories.
