DEV KHAROUD FEELS THAT THE NATURE OF PUNJABIS IS REFLECTED IN THEIR FILMS

Ever wondered why Punjabi cinema is always best in comedy and action? While next-gen directors have put up new trends in Punjabi cinema, action comedies have always been a favorite of Punjabi cine lovers. This has always been a hit formula coz both are in the DNA of Punjabis, the moment you see a comic or a violent scene, it touches a raw nerve in Punjabis because this is what they're known for. Dev Kharoud, who is known for doing serious roles in Punjabi cinema is a keen observer of changing trends in the movie-making business. On being asked what hits with the Punjabi audience's psyche, he said; "We Punjabis are known to joke around and this is how Punjabi films become our first choice. We're also a little aggressive and revengeful, so it brings in the element of action. Our films are very much inspired by our lifestyle and habits. Many non-Punjabi cine-goers ask me, ‘why always comedy or village rivalry in Punjabi films and I give them this logic." Kharoud has garnered huge appreciation for immortalising his roles in Rupinder Gandhi series. The theatre artist-turned-actor has really experimented with his roles in very early stages of his career and has won both public and critical acclaim. He had a lot to say about his movie choices:  "It's good to see happy cinema as it helps in giving away all the negative thoughts. I remember the days I was desperate for projects. I used to be vehla and the moment anything came, I used to grab it. But waiting taught me many things and my theatre experience came handy. When facing camera, you need to be bit sophisticated in acting.". Dev Kharoud will be seen in Dakuan Da Munda soon and the film has already created a hype, being based on the life of an infamous Punjabi gangster.
