FAMOUS PUNJABI FOLK TALES WHICH WERE MADE INTO FILMS

There are numerous movies whose filmmakers were inspired from folk tales of Punjab and were made into films. There are numerous films both in the Bollywood and the Pollywood which were inspired from the Folk Tales and ultimately became huge hit among the audience. Here we bring you 5 blockbuster films which were made into romantic folk tales by the filmmakers.

HEER RANJHA

[caption id="attachment_42416" align="alignnone" width="182"]heer ranjha Source[/caption] Heer Ranjha is a lovestory which inspired Punjabi film, Heer Ranjha: A True Lovestory, which was made in 2009. It had Harbhajan Maan and Neeru Bajwa in pivitol roles. Other than Maan and Bajwa, Jasbir Jassi, Mickey Duhra, Guggu Gill and Diljit Kaur are also seen in the film.

SASSI PUNNO

This is yet another famous Punjabi folk tale which was made into a Punjabi film in 1983. Satish Bhakhri directed this film and it stars Satish Kaul as the lead actor. Famous Bollwood singers like Muhammad Sadiq, Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosale, Usha Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor were the play back singers of this film. Kuldeep Manak the famous Punjabi singer, and Anette also sung for this film. The lyrics were penned by Babu Singh Maan, Munsif, Qamar Jalalabadi and Mahinder Kaailay.

MIRZA SAHIBA

Gippy Grewal, Mandy Takhar were the lead actors of the film where Gippy played the character of Mirza and Takhar portrayed the character of Sahiban. It was also Honey Singh's first commercial venture. The film produced by Inda Raikoti and Aman Khatkar had an outstandign opening throughout Punjab.

SOHNI MAHIWAL

[caption id="attachment_42411" align="alignnone" width="220"]sunny deol Source[/caption] A Bollywood film of the same name as the folk tale, Sohni Mahiwal, was made in 1984 with Sunny Deol and Poonam Dhillon seen in the main roles. It is an India- USSR film which was directed by Umesh Mehra and Latif Faiziyev, and F C Mehra produced the film.

LAILA MAJNU

Other than Rishi and Ranjeeta Danny Denzongpa, Aruna Irani and Asrani were also seen in the film.
