FOR THE FIRST TIME 'RANBIR KAPOOR' TO PLAY A DOUBLE ROLE IN 'SHAMSHERA'

Ranbir Kapoor is on a roll these days. Recently he has won the award for Best Actor Filmfare for Sanju. The actor currently has two big films in his kitty - Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra and Karan Malhotra's Shamshera.

Brahmastra is already much in news as the team of the movie made a special visit to the Kumbh to launch the logo of their movie. And now if we talk about his next big film, then Shamshera, too, has grabbed eyeballs. Buzz has it that Ranbir Kapoor might play a double role in Shamshera.

Spilling the beans on its concept a leading daily said,

“Ranbir will be seen playing a dacoit in the film, set in the pre-independence era as he is currently shooting for both the roles simultaneously.”

“The film revolves around a dacoit tribe that is fighting for its rights and independence from the British Raj. Apart from playing the protagonist, Ranbir might also be seen as the central character’s father. He has been shooting for both roles simultaneously. This is the first time in his 12-year-long career so far that Ranbir will play a double role.”

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in prominent roles. Vaani was last seen opposite Ranveer Singh in Befikre. She will be playing the role of a traveling dancer in the film and has been learning Kathak for the role.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt has been roped in to play the antagonist in the period action-drama, which is being bankrolled by Yash Raj Films. Karan, who has earlier directed Sanjay in 2012 hit Agneepath, told a daily earlier,

"Shamshera is a ferocious and fearless character in the film. Therefore his nemesis, the villain had to be even more fierce and monumental in every aspect. Who better than Sanjay sir to give us that impact on screen?"

While Sanjay Dutt also said,

"My father and Yash (Chopra) uncle were close friends and now that I'm doing my first YRF film, it is an extremely emotional moment for me. When I heard Karan's idea to pit Ranbir against me, I thought it was brilliant. I look forward to shooting this incredibly exciting film, my second with the hugely-talented Karan Malhotra."

The film is expected to hit the screens in July 2020.
