A lot is being done everywhere for the up-gradation and development of the girls. Be it in the film industry, corporate industry or any other area of work, regulations are being framed for the betterment and upliftment of the female section of the society. Films like Mardaani, Chak De India, Queen, Nil Battey Sanatta have been made for showcasing that the power of women is not restricted to what they wear, but the co9urage to take up action against the wrong. Following this, a university in Punjab has also taken a step towards empowering the women. After a reputed newspaper reported about the ban of shorts worn by the female students, the system annulled the decision on 8th June. The authorities of the institution canceled their decision of prohibiting the female students from wearing shorts in the main library of the institution. Both the male and the female students were restricted from wearing the shorts in the main library. Dean Student Welfare (girls), Amrit Pal Kaur, said, “Now there is no restriction on any student in the varsity campus. Girls can wear clothes of their choice in the campus. I have talked to the students and the warden and issue has been resolved”. Secretary of Democratic Students Union, Gagandeep Kaur, said, “I appreciate the move taken by the authorities.” Another university student Jaspreet Kaur said, “Now we can go to the library and the mess in clothes of our choice. We are mature and can decide what we should and should not wear”. “This is a moral victory for all girls and no one can’t put “diktat” on us,” she added. The girls at Punjabi University Patiala have been given the freedom to wear the clothes of their choice in the university campus. If any restriction has been risen, it has been a restriction for both- female students and the male students.
