The famous Kapoor clan will not be welcoming Lord Ganesha like they always did since the past seventy years. This is because the Kapoor brothers, with a mutual decision, had decided to sell of the RK Studios where the Lord was brought everywhere during the major festival.
Talking to the media about the same, Randhir Kapoor said “That was the last Ganesh Chaturthi celebration for us. RK Studios hi nahi raha... to kahan karenge? (When there is no RK Studios, where will we organise it?) Papa (Raj Kapoor) started the tradition 70 years ago with a lot of love for the Trunk God, but now, we don’t have a place where we can hold the celebrations the way we did at RK Studios. We all love Bappa and have immense faith in him, but I guess, we can’t continue with the tradition anymore.”
The Kapoors celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi at the RK Studios and welcomed the Trunk Lord and after the festival took the idol for the immersion with fun and frolic, dance and dhols. All the brothers, Randhir Kapoor, Rajeev Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, and even Ranbir Kapoor participated in the festival eagerly annually.
Rishi Kapoor had confirmed in 2018 that RK Studios would be sold off and this decision was taken mutually by the entire family. The investment money which would have been used for the purpose of rebuilding the famous RK Studios would have been more than the revenue generated.
Rishi Kapoor is staying in New York since the last 11 months for his cancer treatment, and during an interview, he said that he is really looking forward to being with family during the celebration of the festival. He said “Celebrating Ganpati is a family tradition. So, I am hoping to be part of it.” The actor will be celebrating his birthday on September 4, two days after the festival.”
