Punjabi film industry is expanding with each passing day. Every day we hear about new singers, see new faces, new directors and various others trying their luck in the industry. This is an industry, where very few people are able to survive and when luck hits them, there is no looking back for them.
If looked closely, every Punjabi film has an artist who can prove his worth if given a choice. These artists should be appreciated and given the credit for the success of the film, but unfortunately, only the lead actors are given the credit and appreciation.
Talking about the important roles, significant people of the industry if the theatre artists should be given a chance to portray bigger roles in the movies, and here's what they had to say.
Pankaj Batra is the Punjabi film director who said, "Fitting a singer- actor or theatre actor in a script is not a correct approach. Look into the script and know who fits where and then give them roles. I wanted new faces and fresh talent for my movie Sajjan Singh Rangroot which is why I picked up artistes from theatre. The ones who did great work in the movie have now got more offers. Giving chance to people from theatre is beneficial for both the makers and the artiste but fitting them in places just for the sake of it is absolutely a wrong approach."
He also added that the actors and theatre artists have their position in the industry and their timing on the screen is decided depending on their make it or break it attitude.

Jaspinder Cheema is the actress who was applauded for her role in Gelo said that Punjabi industry is picking new faces from the theatre background. But the real question lies in the truth that whether the industry is picking such artists for the lead role or not. Being a singer based industry, a theatre artist getting the lead role was very difficult. She thinks that the makers had to change their persective and search for the talent outside the industry.
Actor and director, Rana Ranbir, said "Punjabi industry has given a window and recognition to theater artists well. I have been in the industry since years and I have got ample work. Likewise, my other friends from theatre background have got work in this industry. Talking about lead roles, makers never think about choosing a theatre artiste in the lead. They are inclined towards singers because of financial reasons."
He also added that after doing the lead role in Asees, the actor has been appreciated for his role and his collegues from the industry have also said him that to make the movie work better, he should have chosen a singer actor. But Rana thinks that its high time the makers changed their mindset about the lead actors.
