'HOCKEY' IS THE NEW GAME IN POLLYWOOD AND WE CAN'T KEEP CALM ABOUT IT!

A new trend to show gratitude and respect to sports has been started in the film industry and many movies have been made under this genre. The trend was highlighted from the Aamir Khan starrer “Lagan” directed by Ashutosh Gowariker in 2001 and others followed the trend. The Bollywood started its league with cricket based movies either fiction, based on true incidents or biopics, but in 2007 Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Chakk De! India” changed the game and hockey was given an importance for a change. Since the race has been started and Bollywood is making money from the sports-based movies, how can our Punjabi Film Industry lag behind in the race. The upcoming year can be called a sports year with 3 movies lined up based on Hockey. Hockey Ammy Virk starrer “Harjeeta” and Ranjit Bawa, Mandy Takhar and Manav Vij starrer “Khido Khundi" all set to take the Film Industry to a level. Diljit Dosanjh, Tapsee Punnu and Prakash Jha starrer “Flicker Singh”  is also getting ready to set a hockey wave in Bollywood. Khido Khundi Since cricket has been a major sport that is widely liked by most of the countrymen, our national sport has been somehow overshadowed by it. There are other movies that are based on other sports like Kabaddi, Football, Boxing, Wrestling as well but still, the industry is dominated by cricket. [caption id="attachment_23479" align="alignnone" width="598"]Hockey Tapsee Panu and Diljit Dosanjh[/caption] It is a widely accepted notion that Industry sets the trend and we all follow that. The cinema can be used as a medium to popularize other sports as well besides cricket. It is a great game but sports don’t revolve around cricket. Three cheers for Punjabi Movie Industry for understanding this concept and bringing out back to back movie on national game. Until the time we get other sports movies, let’s grab a bucket of popcorn and enjoy these upcoming movies.
