It is now that time of the year that gives you a foggy morning and a chilly evening. The period when getting out of bed becomes a thing to battle with. I am talking about winter and the cold breeze that comes with it. But the cold and gloomy winter days can be fought with a cup of 'chai'.
Despite all the goodness of winter, the season brings with it lots of diseases. 'Common cold' is not the only illness people experience in winter. As our body adapts to the weather, there are other diseases that can occur. Let's find out what these diseases are and how they can be prevented to have a worry-free winter.
This may come as a shock to many but yes, this season is prime for heart attacks. It occurs more in aged people. Our body experiences loss of heat due to the fall in temperature. Therefore, the arteries become tightened making it difficult to pump blood. To prevent this from happening, avoid early morning exercises. You can shift it to a time when the sun is out. Also, avoid overeating. Eat in small quantities at intervals.
All those who experience asthma attacks will know that they occur mostly in winters. This is because the airways get tightened making it difficult to breathe. To prevent this, avoid smoky areas and always carry along your asthma pump. Wash your beddings regularly because of the dust that settles on it. Also, avoid dust by putting on a mask when outside the home. Keep yourself warm the best way you can.
With the harsh wind that blows, our skin also becomes dry which makes it itch. To prevent that, always apply oil to your skin. It could be coconut oil, almond oil or even petroleum jelly. Keep your skin moisturized daily.
A lot of people experience joint pain during the winter season. Keeping warm helps to prevent such pains. Exercising in the sun is also a way of prevention or the exercises can be done indoors. Lastly, avoid wearing one heavy winter clothing, if possible, put on two to three items of clothing.
The headaches experienced in winter most of the time is due to lack of proper ventilation. All doors and windows are shut with little or no ventilation taking place. Therefore, despite the cold, let some air in. Also, drink plenty of fluids, get enough rest and eat healthily.
The end of the year is always a time of fun and celebration. As we mark the end of 2017 with this very season, remember to apply the tips mentioned above to stay healthy and not miss out on all the fun.
