I CAN BE QUITE GOOD AT PLAYING UDHAM SINGH: TAAPSEE PANNU

The year has been a fantastic one for Vicky Kaushal. His only release of 2019 so far, Uri: The Surgical Strike has done tremendously well and the first look of his next film on Shaheed Udham Singh has received all-round acclaim and praise from the critics, movie-goers, fans and industry colleagues. However, his Manmarziyaan co-star Taapsee Pannu had her own unique way of congratulating the actor as well as the makers of the first look.

Taking to Twitter quoting director Shoojit Sircar's tweet, Taapsee stated that she had been coaxing the makers to cast her as the titular character of Udham Singh in the biopic as she would've been quite good at playing the role of the freedom fighter.

She went on to say that makers still opted for Vicky Kaushal, who, she believes, will do a decent job. Of course, not to mention, she wrote it all in jest as at end she called Shoojit Sircar, producer Ronnie Lahiri and Vicky Kaushal - her favourite.

Her Tweet read as,

"I kept telling @ShoojitSircar and @ronnielahiri I can be quite good at playing Udham Singh! But now that they have found @vickykaushal09 I think he will do a decent job For all the favourites in one team I’m gonna wait for this"

Replying to Taapsee Ronnie Lahiri wrote,

"He’s trying to match up to your standards", to which Taapsee replied, "Tell him to keep trying ! He will reach somewhere close by".

Now, it would be interesting to see how Vicky will react to this.

For those who are unaware, Vicky was not Shoojit's first choice, it was actually Irrfan Khan but after he was diagnosed with cancer, Sircar had to change his plan.

During a media interaction about casting Vicky, Shoojit said,

"There’s a burning intensity and anger that I saw in his eyes during our first meeting itself, that convinced me he was the one right man to play Udham. The film is based on Udham Singh’s life, particularly one event which we had already researched. Since Vicky is from Punjab, a Sikh family, it’s a huge responsibility for him too."

On the work front, Taapsee, just like Vicky, too is having an incredible year with Badla co-starring Amitabh Bachchan earning Rs 87.87 crore at the box office. She will next be seen in Saand Ki Aankh, which is slated for a Diwali release.
