IRCTC has launched its first privately-occupied, air-conditioned saloon coach which has valet service and an attached bathroom. IRCTC calls it the ‘Moving House’. The coach has started its maiden tour from Old Delhi Railway Station to Katra, Jammu. The saloon car was attached to Jammu Mail for its onward journey to Katra. The amenities provided in the coach include: two air-conditioned bedrooms with attached bathroom, a large living cum dining room, a kitchen and a rear window. These saloons can accommodate two families and it facilitates the stay for upto five days. Since the coach is open to public, its first tour will be experienced by six VIP passengers, until now only top Railway officials had access to this coach to reach remote places which were not accessible by road or air. [caption id="attachment_33126" align="aligncenter" width="516"] Source[/caption] According to IRCTC, the cost of chartering this coach is about Rs. 2 lacs and there are 336 saloon cars across Railway zones out of which only 62 are air-conditioned. The decision to make these coaches available to public is not recent. According to a PTI (Press Trust of India) report, the chairperson of the Railway Board Ashwani Lohani along with travel and trade associations took the decision to make these coaches public in January this year. After which the saloon will be back in Delhi. IRCTC said,
This will be an all inclusive tour where the guests will be offered all the comfort of a hotel. Exclusive staff will be available for services on board. Railway also provides one AC attendant and one saloon attendant for ensuring hassle free travel.Saloons are now available for the general public and details are on IRCTC website.
