In order to establish transparency Indian Railways has taken an important decision regarding the food being prepared for the passengers. Which is the passengers of the Indian Railways will now be able to check exactly what they are eating as the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) kitchens is set live stream the food being cooked in the trains. The initiative has been taken to improve the quality of food being served during the train journey and increase sanitation in the kitchen area. The live streaming was inaugurated by Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani. Apart from inauguration, Lohani also inspected the base kitchen in Noida which serves at least 10,000 meals per day to nearly 17 Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains. Lohani also added that the IRCTC kitchen has a unique food testing lab which is not present in the aviation sector. The kitchen at present is serving the revamped IRCTC menu for select Rajdhani and Duronto trains. The live streaming of kitchens is available as a link on the IRCTC website under the gallery section. The live streaming of kitchens will go a “long way” in establishing transparency. Indian Railways believe that by doing so, the demand in the food will increase. All this has been made possible with the use of artificial intelligence. The AI-infused kitchen will be able to detect the various kitchen operations such as presence of rodents or chefs violating the rule of wearing their uniform.
