Being digitally active is a good thing but if this thing becomes an addiction, then you are on the wrong path. Our digital presence has made us more distracted and it is also leading many people to depression. Many people are obsessed with their phones, they don't even enjoy a happy meal with their family and friends because they can't leave their phones aside. A research suggests; "People who are allowed to use their phones during dinner had more trouble staying in the present moment. Modern technology may be wonderful, but it can easily sidetrack us and take away the special moments we can have with our friends and family." Participants were asked either to keep their phones on the ringer or vibration mode or put their phones on silent mode and keep them in a container during the meal. After having their meal, the participants filled a questionnaire detailing their feelings of social connectedness, enjoyment, distraction and boredom. It also included the amount of time sent on using the phone and the reason why they used their phones while having a meal. The researchers found that people who had their phones easily accessible were more distracted and hardly enjoyed anything, than the ones who put their phones away. Another study presented in the session found that compassionate people spent less time on the social media than the people who were more self-centered and narcissist. In addition, people with lower emotional intelligence, or those who have difficulty identifying, describing and processing their emotions, used social media more often than those who were more in touch with their feelings.
