Some movies have their fates written right from their announcements. While some need a good storyline, others work just because of the names associated with the project. One such film is the recently released Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Thugs of Hindostan'.
The film released one day after Diwali and has received mixed reviews from the audience. Despite the kind of reactions, the film has garnered Rs 52 crore and has become the highest Day 1 grosser. The Yash Raj Films project had been in news for its talented star cast and spectacular graphics right from the day of the release of its trailer. Film's songs like Suraiyya and Vashmalle were able to create some ripples because of Ajay-Atul's catchy music and Amitabh Bhattacharya's words.
Starring two of the biggest names of Bollywood, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, the film also marks the first ever collaboration between the two stalwarts. It also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Katrina Kaif and Lloyd Owen in pivotal roles. It is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame. This is the second time the director has worked with Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. The film has been in news for the looks of the leading cast, set in the pre-independence era.
The film collected Rs 50.75 crore and adding the business of its Tamil and Telugu releases, the current total comes to Rs. 52.25 crore. Thugs of Hindostan became the highest opener of 2018, leaving Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju at the second spot. In fact, the film has set three records: being the highest earning film that released on Diwali ever, highest opening under Yash Raj banner and also for a Hindi film.
'Thugs of Hindostan' may have failed to impress the viewers but it has definitely added to the collections at YRF, that needs a highlighting project after fair successes like Sui Dhaaga (starring Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan) and Hichki (starring Rani Mukerji).
