Society, many a time try to direct women about their items of clothing. They often get sexist and derogatory remarks about wearing modern, flashy or clothes of their choice. A most recent example of this is the incident that happened at a college in Kerela. Jouhar Munavvir T a professor of the Farook Training College said that girls in his college were not wearing their hijab properly. Addressing a group of Muslim Families he said that they were intentionally flashing them like 'slices of watermelon on display'. This statement by the teacher got the girls furious as they were not ready to tolerate it. An audio clip of him giving the statement during the speech went viral on social media. In the clip, he apparently said
"I am a teacher of a college where 80 percent of the students are girls and of that, the majority are Muslims. These girls are not wearing a dress as per the religious tradition. They are not covering their chests with hijab. But showing part of it is like slices of red watermelon being displayed,as translated by Deccan Chronicle [caption id="attachment_32191" align="alignnone" width="4000"] Source: Facebook[/caption] The girls have now started a protest called 'Watermelon March'. It all started after two girls posted bare-chested photos of them on social media. One of them used sliced watermelon to cover her breasts and the other covered her face with it. After this, Facebook has deleted the pictures and also blocked their accounts. After this, a number of girls also protested by holding slices of watermelons on their hands.
