On the occasion of World Environment Day, a number of celebrities have taken bold steps towards saving mother earth. They have joined the #beatplasticpollution challenge on Twitter and posted their photos along with a biodegradable product they will be using from now on, replacing a plastic product. The celebs have also tagged others to complete the challenge. Dia Mirza, the United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador, spoke about environment conservation in an international conference at ‘Shared Vision for Urban Sustainability’ event organized by TERI India ahead of the World Environment Day.
Sustainability is not new to India. As Indians, we have always functioned with the understanding that our well-being is connected to the earth. We need to build Smart Cities keeping this knowledge in mind.She has also posted a video on Twitter suggesting alternative ways to reduce plastic usage. Juhi Chawla and Aditi Rao Hydari also participated in the challenge by posting their photos in the handle. The song is penned by Swanand Kirkire, composed by Shaan and choreographed by Shiamak Davar. It is sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Ayushmann Khurana, Sonu Nigam, Neeti Mohan, Swanand Kirkire, Kanika Kapoor, Armaan Malik, Shekhar Ravjiani and Shiamak Davar. Abhay Deol made an eco-friendly house in Goa in 2014 which has solar panels and water harvesting set-up. Akshay Kumar has also conceptualised and ideated a comic book series titled Tronomega to Earth Mission to impart general awareness among the younger generation about environmental problems. John Abraham has also been actively involved in wildlife conservation.
