KNOW WHAT ORISSA GOVT. HAS TO SAY ABOUT 'SOORMA'

Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu starrer 'Soorma' has already become a talk of the town and now Orissa government have issued an open letter to the union government and Prime Minister of India. The letter read; For any country winning an Olympics gold medal is a proud moment. What makes it more glorious is to hear their national anthem being played on the global stage while the country's flag goes up. In 1948 as a newborn nation, India witnessed this glory in London when Indian hockey team won the Olympic gold medal. A nation of 33 crores rejoiced as the gold was won in London by defeating Great Britain. It was perhaps the poetic justice that young and aspirational India won against its former coloniser in London. Till 1980's India's presence in the international sports arena was marked by its brilliance in international hockey. Crores of Indians rejoiced every time our hockey team became victorious and our national anthem was played. Cutting across different strata of country or region, cutting across the rural-urban divide, Hockey is hugely popular. In the tribal areas of Orissa, Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh, hockey is a way of life. In fact, in a first of its kind, state of Orissa is sponsoring the national team for next five years. As you know sir the next world cup hockey will be held in Orissa, in November this year. While reviewing the preparations, I was shocked to know that what is popularly known as the national game-Hockey never notified as a national game. Hence, I'm sure that you will agree with the crores of hockey-loving fans of our country, that hockey truly deserves to be our national game. This will be a fitting tribute to great hockey players who have made our country proud. It will also inspire our future generations.
