Narendra Modi government has planned to honor the legendary playback singer, Lata Mangeshkar with the title of ‘Daughter Of The Nation’. This title will be given to her when she turns 90 on September 28. She will be honored with this title as a tribute for her massive contribution in the field of entertainment over a period of seventy years.
Poet-lyricist Prasoon Joshi has written a song, especially for this grand occasion. A source of the government said “Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji’s voice. She represents the collective voice of the Indian nation. Honoring her is to honor the daughter of the nation and that’s what we will officially designate her on her 90th birthday.”
Lata Mangeshkar is the most respected Indian playback singer and music director. Throughout her career, she has done playback singing in more than 1000 films. She has sung songs more than thirty-six regional languages, but the majority of the songs she has sung in Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali. In 1989, she was honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Government Of India.
The evergreen singer recently made headlines when she made a statement about the increasing fame of internet sensation, Ranu Mondal. During one of the recent interviews, “Agar mere naam aur kaam se kissiko bhala hota hai toh main apne-aap ko khush-kismat samajhti hoon (If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate).”
She further added, “But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab’s, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last.”
Lata Mangeshkar was 5 years old when she started working as an actress in her father’s musical plays. She started her first music lesson from her father. On the first day of the school, she started teaching singing to other children.
We congratulate Lata tai for this honourable moment.
