MARY KOM REDUCES WEIGHT IN 2 HOURS TO AVOID DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE TOURNAMENT

MC Mary Kom practically lost 2 kgs in 4 hours when her flight landed in Poland for Silesian Open Boxing Tournament. It was in this tournament that the boxer won her third gold medal of the year. The Colossus of the world, Mary Kom said, "We landed in Poland at around 3-3:30 in the morning and the general weigh-in was at around 7:30 am. I was a couple of kilograms above 48kg, the category I compete in, at that point. So, I had roughly four hours to shed that or I would have been disqualified for being overweight at the time of general weigh-in. But I did skipping for an hour at a stretch and just like that, I was ready." She also added that her flight was almost empty which let her have a sound sleep throughout and because of the sleep she was not tired or riff when she landed. She even she had given up hope on winning the medal. The petite Manipur girl was the only winner for India at the tournament in Poland. It proved her longevity in the game and also reflected the lack of women in the Indian women's boxing. When talking about her performances, the mother of three with a lopsided grin said, "I am never satisfied with how I perform, I am always looking to work out new strategies. I am obsessive but not overly aggressive. I like to conserve in about. I always like to study my opponents and then dismantle them bit by bit." Mary Kom would soon turn 36 but there is nothing in the world that can stop her from playing the game. She said, "No, the world championships in November is not my last. I am not going anywhere till the 2020 Olympics provided my body stays fit. I know my limitations but I also know my strengths. If there is any injury then I will see." Mary Kom has achieved everything that she could, but she also revealed that her failures played an important role in her wins.
