MIRABAI CHANU WINS GOLD AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2017; INDIA'S FIRST MEDAL AFTER 1995

India has won its first weightlifting medal at the 2017 World Championship all thanks to Mirabai Chanu. Chanu won the gold medal after lifting a total of 194 kg in the 48kg competition at the World Championship held in Anaheim, USA. This is India's first medal at the World Championships after Karnam Malleswari's gold in China in 1995. As per reports, Chanu first lifted 85 kg in Snatch and 109kg in Clean and Jerk making a total of 194kg. This is really huge in terms of achievement at the world stage by an Indian weightlifter. Mirabai in her statement to India Today said;

I owe a lot to my coach Vijay Sharma for this medal. We have worked really hard for this and hopefully, I will be able to replicate this in Tokyo in 2020.
