Modi goes plogging at Mamallapuram beach; furthers the Swachh Bharat Mission

Modi was once again seen promoting his own initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission which was started on 2nd October 2014. Despite people not appreciate him for the kind of politician he is, but his efforts and hard work in promoting hygiene and cleanliness in the country are lauded by one and all, all across the globe.

Recently, the PM of India went plogging on the Mamallapuram Beach prior to his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He shared a video on his Twitter handle and he wrote, “Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes.
Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff.
Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy!
Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.

Recently on the occasion of Gandhi ji’s 150th birthday, he declared India open defecation free. This was a major initiative which was supported by many in the country and helped him in whatever way they could.

For his labour being put into making India a hygienic and a clean country, he was also honoured with ‘Global Goalkeeper’ award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which again was for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by him.

The WHO also acknowledged the efforts of the Modi govt and mentioned that because of this campaign, approximately three lakh people could be saved.

Modi began this major movement in 2014 as a nation-wide campaign for cleaning the streets, roads, infrastructure and the urban and the rural areas.

In his initiative, the Modi government undertook loans from the World Bank to support India’s universal sanitation initiative.

He also appointed various celebrities as the propagators for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Shashi Tharoor, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni were appointed for this massive initiative.

The brand ambassadors for this mission were Sourav Ganguly, Kiran Bedi, Padmanabha Acharya, Sonal Mansingh, Ramoji Rao and Aroon Purie.
