Oscars 2020 saw various moments at its 92nd award ceremony and many of those moments have also created history. One such moment was when megastar Natalie Portman wore a cape which can actually be considered a cape of superhero. She wore an outfit which became the center of attraction for everyone.
She wore a black and golden Dior dress which had names embroidered on them. These were the names of the women who were deemed to be incompetent by The Academy for being nominated in the category of Best Director, despite their outstanding work.
While these nominations were being announced, actress Issa Rae concluded the list by saying “Congratulations to those men.”
The names which were embedded on the cape in golden thread Greta Gerwig, biggest snub of this year. Her film Little Women was nominated for Best Picture and Greta was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, she was not nominated for the Best Director category. Others who were not considered to be nominated for the Best Director are Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Céline Sciamma (Portrait Of A Lady On Fire), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Melina Matsoukas (Queen And Slim) and Alma Har'el (Honey Boy). This is the second consecutive time that female directors have not had enough representation in the category.
However, Natalie wasn’t the only one to point out the missing female directors in the nominees. Presenters, Steve Martin and Chris Rock while presenting the award said, “There's something missing this year” and then both said “vaginas.”
See how Twitter users from all over the world are all praises for this diva!
