Renne Kujur was a three year old child when she participated in a fancy dress competition and was dressed as a fairy. It was then that one of the students yelled: Dekho dekho kaali pari (look, a black fairy) and the entire auditorium burst into laughter. Renne left the stage teary eyed. Today when she signs and lets the fans click pictures with her, she is always reminded of the incident. And rejection became  a part of her life because the industry dominated by fair complexion did not accept this dark skinned girl happily into the industry. She was discourgaed and demeaned, and was told to sleep around for getting the work. The model says, “They told me all models are into prostitution. I won’t become a model unless I pleased clients. Being dark had already killed my chances.” The photographers photoshopped her images and would tell the makeup artists to make her a little fair by doing the makeup 3-4 tones lighter. A makeup artists who did her makeup claimed “Sundar ladki ka makeup toh koi bhi kar sakta hai. The real challenge is to make a dark girl look good and I have done it.” [caption id="attachment_41670" align="alignnone" width="587"]Indian Rihanna Source: Instagram[/caption] Renne's friend complemented her that her looks were similar to those of Rihanna, the Barbadian beauty and also comolemented about how her skin tone was alos the same as that of the most famous singer in the world. Renne says, “I laughed off the Rihanna part. But soon everyone was saying the same thing.” This event made things easy for her and she started getting work more easily. The Indin Rihanna said, “Photogs would tell their clients that I resemble Rihanna. That way, it was easier to convince them. No one could deny that Rihanna wasn’t beautiful. That sort of worked in my favour. Those who had called me kaali and unattractive has to take back their words.” [caption id="attachment_41671" align="alignnone" width="595"]Indian Rihanna Source: Instagram[/caption] The model feels very lucky to have the same looks as that of Rihanna which was a turning point in her modelling career.

"With such deep rooted prejudice in people’s mind, it would have been very tough to get work. The Rihanna factor turned out to be a blessing. Rihanna has already convinced people that she is sexy and beautiful and the West is crazy about her. If I resemble her, how can I be unattractive? That’s how our mind works. I don’t know where I would have landed without Rihanna.”
Despite the Rihanna factor, Renne only gets 25% of the work which her fair counter parts get. The girl realy desires to meet Rihanna one day and thank her for the part she had unknowingly played in Renne's life.
