Gurjant Singh aka Gurr-Vir Singh is a struggling singer whom Punjab police on Saturday arrested with his accomplice and recovered drugs and illegal weapons from their possession. They have been booked under the NDPS Act and Arms Act. The singer who had glorified guns and violence in one of his songs, namely 'Jatt Mehakma 2' was arrested by the special task force (STF) of the Punjab police for allegedly peddling one and a half kilograms of heroin. The two men were travelling through Ford Figo hatchback, after driving into a special naka set up by the police on a tip-off when they reversed and tried to speed away upon seeing the checkpoint. Policemen chased them down and seized their car too. Other than heroine Police officials have also recovered a revolver, five live cartridges and a mobile phone with an Italian SIM card. According to the reports, both of them used to make WhatsApp calls through the Italian number so that cops could not trace their calls. Assistant Inspector General (AIG), STF, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, stated that the convicts were associated with smugglers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Vancouver (Canada) and Dubai (UAE). Bhullar also added that Gurjant, whose songs have over seven lakh views on YouTube, allegedly used drug money to produce his music videos. He further added,
Gurjant’s brother Nirmal Singh is also involved in cross-border smuggling from Pakistan.Gurjant's accomplice, who told police his name is Surjit Singh confessed he was into drug peddling for the past two years. He used to procure drugs from smugglers near the Pakistan border. Surjit further revealed that Gurjant was into smuggling for the past six months. At present, Police has launched a manhunt to arrest Nirmal Singh too and is investigating for their past criminal record, if any.
