Virat Kohli smashed his career-best 94* to take India to victory against West Indies in the first T20I of the three-match series. KL Rahul also played a vital 64 off 40 at the top of the order which meant that India successfully chased down their highest total in their T20I history.
India and Kohli once again showed the kind of depth and confidence they have considering that Shikhar Dhawan isn't playing the series and KL Rahul has been moved up the order alongside, Rohit Sharma. On Friday, chasing a target of 207 on Hyderabad's flat track wasn't tricky for the home team but kudos to the West Indies team who didn't just roll over against the big guns.
In the first innings, the visitors went rampant with Evin's 17 balls 40 and Hetmyer scoring a brisk half-century. The whole Windies batting line-up contributed with quick runs to make a total of 207.
During India's innings, after Rohit got out cheaply, Rahul & Virat kept the scoreboard ticking with the Indian captain continuously looking to go after the Windies bowling but without much success. One could see that he wasn't happy with how the ball was coming off his bat. Due to the pressure, Rahul got out after hitting two consecutive 6's however, things changed when he hit a six off Jason Holder in the 15th over to reach his fifty. After that, there was no stopping as Virat, Pant and other batters scored at the rate of knots. 50+ runs came in 3.4 overs leading India to win.
Indian skipper once again proved that he is the best since he has a 50+ average in all formats. The second T20I is to be played on December 8th in Vishakhapatnam and let's see how the rest of the series unfolds.
