The co-founder, largest and the main investor in the Republic TV, Rajeev Chandrasekhar is an Indian politician, entrepreneur and Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha of the Indian Parliament. He is the Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party as of 2018.
Independent, unbiased and truthful news channels are in major jeopardy as Arnab Goswami is elected as Governing board President of M News Broadcasters Federation. He has been elected by 78 news channels in 14 languages representing broadcasters from 25 states.
It is no secret that Arnab Goswami is a big Modi bhakt and biased towards the current government and its policies. The biggest proof is that the co-founder of Republic TV is Rajeev Chandrasekhar who is the vice-chairman of the Kerala wing of Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition NDA. With Arnab getting full control over the federation, manipulation of public and news is going to be a normal thing now.
People have been fighting for independent news reporting for centuries now. The masses follow the latest updates about the world from the news channels, so turning the mob to any side will become easy because they'll accept whatever the channels report.
Moreover, the print, TV and digital media are mostly owned by conglomerates who have interests in other spheres; meaning that even they manipulate the news. We're not saying that Goswami is corrupt (because we do not have the evidence) but trusting the news channels will be difficult when the president of the board also tries to influence the news.
The Guwahati-born news honcho seems to be relishing the challenge. ‘For far too long a clutch of Delhi-based channels have falsely claimed to represent Indian broadcasting. NBF will change that, for good,’ says Goswami, the editor-in-chief of Republic TV.
The new self-regulatory organization is scheduled to be announced officially by the end of January 2020.
