The apex court of India today scolding the central government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has asked them to either protect the iconic Taj Mahal or they will issue a warning letter to get the iconic Mughal structure “shut it down” and also that the authorities should “demolish or restore” it.
Supreme Court was not happy with the Uttar Pradesh government as it has failed to come out with a vision to protect the Taj Mahal. A bench comprising of Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Deepak upset by the authorities for not preserving the Taj. The bench observed;
There is absolutely no willingness to protect the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal has to be protected. Either we will shut it down or you demolish or restore it.
The court also said that the Taj Mahal was more beautiful than the Eiffel Tower and could have solved the country’s foreign.
Eighty million go to watch Eiffel Tower which looks like a TV Tower. Our Taj is more beautiful. If you had looked after it your foreign exchange problem would have been solved. Do you realise the loss caused to the country due to your apathy?, the court said.
The state government had earlier told the bench that it would present a draft before the court informing about the vision document to protect and preserve the Taj Mahal that was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. But the state government failed miserably to protect the ages old Taj.
Now the court had asked for a next hearing on July 31 on a daily-to-daily basis, the bench has asked the center government to furnish full details on the steps and actions to protect the Taj Mahal.
