RK studios which was one of the landmarks of the ‘Fimly Nagri,’ ‘Mumbai’ is going to be sold soon by the Kapoor family. The location became a hub for many movies since it was established in the year 1948 by the Late legendary actor Raj Kapoor. The very first movie produced by the RK Studios was ‘Aag’ and the last one under this banner was ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalein’. RK But from the last few years the property had become a matter of concern and worry for the entire family. On September 16 last year, a major fire broke out on the sets of dance reality show "Super Dancer" at the studio in which its ground floor was totally destroyed.  And now in a recent interview with a leading daily of Mumbai, Rishi Kapoor revealed that they are going to sell this property. [caption id="attachment_46411" align="alignnone" width="447"]RK SOURCE[/caption] Rishi said the family decided to sell the property after learning that the renovation of the studio would still not bring in enough revenue to keep the establishment running.

For a while, we did juggle with the idea of renovating the place with state-of-the-art technology. However, in reality it isn’t always possible for a phoenix to rise from the ashes. We Kapoors are very emotional lot but then… The investment in rebuilding the studio would just not have yielded sufficient revenue to keep it going. Believe me, we had to take the larger picture into account and take a level-headed decision. Even before the fire, for years R. K. Studio had become a huge white elephant, toting up losses. The few bookings we would get from films, TV serials and ad shoots would expect free parking space, air-conditioning and discounts,
he told the daily. This decision was collectively by Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, their sisters and mother Krishna Raj Kapoor. Where Randhir Kapoor was of the view that
Yes we have taken the decision to sell RK Studio. It is already up for sale. After the fire that broke at the studio it was not viable to build the studio again... It was not economically viable to do it again,
he said. So finally a decision has been taken by the Kapoor family and all that we can say is that the journey of RK Studios with the Kapoor generation is over.
