SARGUN MEHTA SPEAKS HER HEART OUT ON PUNJABI FILMS IN INTERNATIONAL MARKET

Punjabi films are making a mark on global platforms. Not long ago, we had told you about Deep Sidhu-starrer Sadde Aale opening at Cannes 2018 and Jagjeet Sandhu's Mehsampur going to Sydney Film Festival.

As far as award functions are concerned, Punjabi cinema has a few of their own in India. But 2018 marked the beginning of first BritAsia Punjabi Film Awards in UK. Who's who of Pollywood attended the awards and that's when we realised that Punjabi films have got some real loyal fans in the royal country.

Seconding us in our thoughts is the pretty Punjabi actress Sargun Mehta. According to her statement to a leading news agency, the lady was quoted saying,

The Punjabi film industry is a growing industry, and we need people to watch, love and support our movies. This is the only way the industry will grow. And I'm happy that the UK is one of the biggest markets for the Punjabi film industry.

Punjabi entertainment industry is still evolving, experimenting with new genres and the filmmakers are trying to make meaningful cinema. Apart from the old-school, tried and tested Comedy film formula, this year has seen movies like Sajjan Singh Rangroot, Subedar Joginder Singh and Harjeeta that have raised the bar of stories.

Well, these films have garnered huge appreciation and bucks on the box-office. Punjabi-loving audience across the world have started waiting for the movies. Sargun mentions the following reason for this excitement,

When we are out of India, we crave for Indian food, we crave something like going back 'home'. So anybody outside of Punjab who watches our films, they tell them a narrative about the old Punjab or how their grandparents used to live in Punjab or how and what happened during, before or after Partition.

Sargun Mehta is busy posting her pics from her UK trip where she recently bagged the Best Actress award at BritAsia Punjabi film Awards for her beautiful portrayal of a Pakistani woman in Lahoriye.
