According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan financially supported the Arjuna Awardee boxer Kaur Singh. Apparently, legendary boxer Kaur Singh was suffering to pay his hospital bills. The ailing boxer was finding it difficult to pay Rs. 2 Lakh incurred for treating his Cardiac condition. To this, the Badshah Shah Rukh Khan came to rescue. As he was touched and saddened by the news he wired Rs. 5 Lakh on Saturday. The actor said that Sportsmen bring pride to the country and it's our duty to look after them. As quoted on TOI the actor said,
Sportspersons bring pride to a country and it is our duty to look after them as a society. After reading about Kaur Singh, we as a sporting unit, felt the need to stand by our fellow sportsman and urge everyone else to do the same in their own way. We wish Kaur Singh a speedy recovery and a healthy life.The boxer was awarded Padmashree in the year 1983, the Army also awarded him with the Vishisht Sewa Medal (VSM) in 1988. In 1982 Asian Games which was held in New Delhi he won the gold medal in the men's heavyweight category. In the same year, he was awarded the Arjuna Award.
