Shahid Kapoor roped in for official remake of 'Jersey'

After setting the benchmark and breaking all the box office records with his last movie, Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor will take over the screens once again. He will be seen in another official remake of a Telugu film titled, ‘Jersey’. He will be seen playing the lead role which was originally played by Nani. Telugu director, Gowtam Tinnauri, who directed the original film, will also direct the Bollywood remake.

Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh announced this good news on his social media handle. He wrote, “IT’S OFFICIAL… Shahid Kapoor to star in #Hindi remake of #Telugu film #Jersey… The #Hindi version will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original #Telugu version, starring Nani… Produced by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill and Dil Raju… 28 Aug 2020 release..”

The film, Jersey will narrate the story of a man named Arjun, a skilled but a failed cricketer. For fulfilling his son’s dream of getting a jersey as a gift, he decides to return back to cricket. The film will release next year on 28th August.

The film garnered much laurels and applause from the audience but from the critics too. The original film was the turning point in Nani’s acting career.

A source close to the filmmakers said, “The director Gowtham Tinnanuri has started giving fine tuning to the Hindi version script of Jersey one and half month back and the regular shoot will be commenced from December first onwards. As of now, the makers are considering Mrunal Thakur of Super 30 fame for the female lead role opposite Shahid.”

Whether this new film will have the same impact on the audience as Kabir Singh did is yet to be seen.


Kabir Singh was the originally made in Telugu and the lead role was played by Arjun Devarakonda and it received a huge response from the audiences and the critics alike. When it was adapted in Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani played the lead actors. Both the versions of the film, Telugu and Hindi, were directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga himself.
