The extraordinary story of Shakuntala Devi, the world-renowned mathematician who lived her life on her own terms. While the film pays tribute to her genius as a mathematician, it also humanizes her as a woman and mother, in trying to capture her indomitable spirit. Told through the lens of her relationship with her daughter Anu, the film highlights their very different struggles and aspirations.
STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES
The screenplay is written by Anu Menon, Nayanika Mahtani and the dialogues are penned by Ishita Moitra. The screenplay takes you back and forth in time and requires you to be super attentive. The first half is not fast paced and often becomes repetitive and tiring. The second half holds you, especially the scenes between Vidya and Sanya will keep you glued. The length of the screenplay could have been shorter.
The dialogues are good and well written.
[ ] VIDYA BALAN She is a miracle. I don't have words to Express how Brilliant she is in the film. There is a dialogue in the film . Age is just a number and numbers love me, the same thing is applicable with her acting. She loves acting and acting loves her back. She is an actress beyond excellence. I wish and pray that this performances gets noticed by everyone and it is a gem of a performance for all the aspiring actors.
[ ] SANYA MALHOTRA has a brief role but she excells in every scene. She is a great actress and should be explored more by our filmmakers.
[ ] JISHU SENGUPTA as Paritosh has a very subtle and subdued appeal. He has been a charmer in every frame
[ ] AMIT SADH as Ajay has looked very handsome and has made his impact.
DIRECTION AND OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS
This film has been directed by Anu Menon. Anu has handled the film nicely but the film looks too filmy. The setup looks fake. The film doesn't throw you in the realistic world. The film might be tiring and doesn't have too many layers. But there are many feel good moments in the film.
The background score could have been better and the cinematography could have been more real.
Watch it for 2 reasons 1. Vidya Balan and 2 Vidya Balan . She held the film solely on her shoulders and her superpowers make it a delight to watch. The film dips and picks up and can make it for a one time watch
I'M GOING WITH 3/5
