Life was so good for Japneet when she got to know that she’ll be shifting to Canada post-marriage and leave Ludhiana. She made plans about what she’ll do and how her life would be like but not all dreams are fulfilled. A month into her marriage, she got to know that her husband, Harry was a drunkard and the problem worsened when her father-in-law passed away within a year.
Life seemed to have taken a drastic turn for her but Japneet wasn’t going to let it drown her. Even though she was new to the city, she went to every nook & corner to find a cure for her husband’s problems. She was determined to find a way for her and Harry.
She felt stronger than before but her grit was tested again when one evening Harry had a little too much to drink and his bike slipped outside their home; the neighbors made hoopla of the situation. Being ‘the man of the house’, she came out, picked him, walked him in, gave him some turmeric milk to soothe his wounds and tucked him into the bed.
After that incident, things started to look better. Harry was making conscious efforts to remain sober since they had a pair of twins, Karan and Twinkle. Japneet knew that they were on the right path but still had a long way to go. For Harry’s treatment, sometimes she had to ask her domestic help to take care of her babies.
Finally, Japneet was successful in helping Harry get rid of alcohol for good. He was sober now and ready to lead a healthy and happy life.
Hang on... the story isn’t over yet.
This journey remained with all four and strengthened them like never before. All four were proud of how far they’d come and just recently, on one of the many happy family outings, Harry shared something which moved everyone to tears.
He raised a toast to Japneet and said “No matter what, my words and actions will never be able to express how much respect and gratitude I have for you. Jappo, I love you for being you and making me who I am. I don’t think anyone else could’ve done what you did. I don’t know what I did to deserve you but you are the rock of my life. Thank you is not enough but I want to say it today, Thank you!”
That day, Japneet felt something which she didn’t think that she ever would; happiness. Even though she had tears in her eyes just like everyone else but she knew, it doesn’t matter where you come from, you never quit on the family.
