Controversy Erupts as PM Modi Accuses Congress of Appeasement Politics
  • PublishedApril 25, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stirred controversy during an election rally in Agra by accusing the Congress party of engaging in appeasement politics and aligning with the Muslim League. Modi criticized the Rahul Gandhi-Akhilesh Yadav alliance in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that their manifesto stole from OBC quotas and advocated reservation based on religion. He emphasized a shift from “appeasement” to “satisfaction” politics, stating it would ensure equitable development for all.

Modi’s remarks didn’t go unnoticed by the Election Commission, which took cognizance of potential violations of the model code of conduct. Notices were issued to BJP president JP Nadda to respond to complaints against Modi’s statements, urging all star campaigners to maintain a high standard of political discourse.

In response to Modi’s allegations, the Congress party and its allies defended their policies, emphasizing inclusivity and equitable distribution of resources. Meanwhile, the Election Commission also addressed controversial remarks made by Rahul Gandhi, issuing a notice to Mallikarjun Kharge.

As the electoral landscape heats up, it’s crucial for political leaders to maintain civility and refrain from inflammatory rhetoric to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
