  • PublishedFebruary 26, 2024

Director Nag Ashwin shared intriguing details about his upcoming film “Kalki 2898 AD” during the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, where he attended alongside actor-producer Rana Daggubati. The film features a star-studded cast, including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in lead roles. Nag Ashwin disclosed that the film’s narrative spans 6000 years, commencing with Mahabharat and concluding in 2898 AD. He emphasized the challenge of creating futuristic worlds while maintaining an Indian aesthetic without resembling “Blade Runner.” The timeline incorporates the belief in Krishna’s last avatar in 3102 BC.

Addressing the topic of AI, specifically OpenAI’s Sora, which has gained attention for generating scenes and universes, Nag Ashwin admitted he hasn’t used it yet due to his busy schedule. While acknowledging the potential efficiency of AI in the creative process, he raised a thought-provoking question about whether AI can replicate the “magic” infused by human touch. The director expressed the extensive efforts involved in building sets, designs, and vehicles for the film, pondering if relying on AI prompts might lead to missing a certain creative spark. Despite contemplating AI’s role, Nag Ashwin remains intrigued by the unique magic that emerges through the traditional, time-consuming creative process.

The film is set to release on May 9, and Nag Ashwin plans to explore AI’s capabilities after its release, raising questions about the balance between technological convenience and the inherent magic of human creativity.
