KFC Extends Olive Branch to Ayodhya, to Serve Exclusive Vegetarian Menu in Restricted Zone
  • PublishedFebruary 8, 2024

The iconic American fast-food chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), has received a warm welcome in Ayodhya despite restrictions imposed by the local administration. Ayodhya district magistrate Nitish Kumar announced today that KFC is permitted to establish outlets in the region but is obligated to offer only vegetarian items within the 15 km radius around the revered Ram Temple.

The Ayodhya administration has enforced a ban on the sale of liquor and non-vegetarian items within the Panch Kosi Marg pilgrimage circuit. In response, KFC has graciously accepted the terms, assuring that they will exclusively serve vegetarian delicacies in the restricted zone while continuing to offer their signature non-vegetarian products outside this area.

District Magistrate Kumar stated, “All brands, including KFC, are welcome to open their outlets in Ayodhya,” highlighting the administration’s commitment to cultural and religious sensitivities. This move mirrors similar restrictions in Haridwar, emphasizing the preservation of local customs. As Ayodhya experiences a surge in visitors post the consecration ceremony of the idol of Lord Ram, KFC’s compromise aligns with the city’s ethos, providing a culinary experience respectful of the sacred surroundings.
