Bollywood stars have not only stolen the hearts of a billion Indians, but also of people across the world. This is why among a total of 928 invitations sent to the best people in film industries across the world, 20 are only for India. The list not only includes filmmakers and actors, but also costume designers, sound designers, editors and music composers. It also believes that if all the invitees accept to become part of the body, it will increase the number of women from 28% to 31% and inclusion of ethnic minorities from 13% to 16%. According to the reports, it will raise the number of voting participants for the Oscars Film Awards to 9300. After the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal in October last year, people across the globe along with the film industries rose against the discrimination of women and ethnic minorities. Hollywood celebrities stood up for Time’s Up movement and raised over $20 million for its legal defense fund and gathered over 200 volunteer lawyers after #MeToo and #OscarsSoWhite movements. It’s interesting that though (past Indian) winners were Indian, it was for their work in international films — largely about India, but not made by India. For a global community like India to be represented on a larger scale, I think it will have to move beyond a single award for all foreign language films. It is very rare to see foreign language films represented in the other categories -Priyanka Chopra
