Punjabi folk and sufi singer Hans Raj Hans presented his biography to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His elder son, Navraj Hans had posted on his official Instagram account the picture of his father presenting his biography to the PM.
The biography has been written by an England based radio jockey Preet Inder Dhillon in 2015 titled “Rags to Ragas & Beyond”. Preet Inder Dhillon once said, “The biography does not only contain the journey of Hans Raj Hans as a singer, but his short journey as a politician has also been taken into account”. She had also said that she had to visit Pakistan for her research work.
Here are some unknown facts about the singer:
Hans Raj Hans was born in Jalandhar, Punjab to a family with no singing background. The singer has got his music lessons from sufi singer Ustad Puran Shahkoti Sahib.
There’s a story behind his name. His guru had added the suffix hans to his name because he used to sing like hans(swan).
Hans Raj Hans started his career with singing folk songs followed by Bollywood as well as devotional songs. His most popular songs Tote Tote Ho Gya and Dil Chori have been recreated by his elder son Navraj Hans for Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.
He is not only a singer but also a politician. He had joined Shiromani Akali Dal party and became Lok Sabha MP in 2009. In 2016, he joined BJP.
In 2014, he made a visit to Pakistan and got involved in a controversy that he had converted into Islam. There were rumours that he had also changed his name to Mohammad Yusuf but his son refuted the reports.
