SUPERHIT PUNJABI FILMS WHICH WERE ADAPTED FROM FAMOUS PUNJABI BOOKS AND NOVELS

There are so many films in the world which have been made after getting inspired by the novels. There are also numerous plays which have been made into films, which in itself is a great task. There are numerous movies in the Punjabi cine world which have gotten inspired from the books and plays.

Here we present you a few such films which were books originally but have been made into films as well.

ANNEY GHOREY DA DAAN


This is a highly acclaimed film which was directed by Gurvinder Singh and was released in 2011. The film is based on a Punjabi novel of the same name and the author of the novel was Gurdial Singh. The film narrates the problems faced by the farmers in Punjab, rural working class and landlords too.

MARHI DA DEEVA


This is a novel and was later adapted into a film in 1989. The novel was written by Gurdial Singh, and the film was helmed by Surinder Singh. The film starred Raj Babbar, Deepti Naval, and Parikshit Sahni in the pivotal roles in the film.

CHAUTHI KOOT


This is a Punjabi film which was released in 2015 and was helmed by Gurvinder Singh. The film is based on Waryam Singh Sandhu’s story collection titled ‘Chauthi Koot’. The film is set at the time of Sikh separatist movement of the 1980s.

KUDESSAN


Kudesan is a Jeet Matharu directorial film which starred Sukhbir Singh, Pakhi Hegde, Nirmal Rishi and Jeet Matharu in the pivotal roles. It is based on a play written by Jatinder Brar. It was nominated for the Punjabi International Film Festival in Toronto in 2012 and was also screened at the London Asian Film Festival too.

GELO


Gelo is a film based in the novel with the same name and was written by Lt. Ram Sarup Ankhi. The film was directed by Manbhavan Singh. It features Jaspinder Cheema and Gurjit Singh in the lead roles.

DARRA


It is a Parveen Kumar directorial project and was produced by Dalwinder Guraya. The film starred Gurpreet Ghuggi, Manveer Rai, Happy Raikoti, Kartar Cheema and Sardar Sohi in the lead roles.

DAKUAAN DA MUNDA


Dakuaan Da Munda is the recently released film which has been adapted from a book of the same name. The author of the film is Mintu Gurusaria. Film and the novel was based on former Kabaddi player, Mintu Gurusaria and the film was helmed by Mandeep Benipal.
