The year 2018 was an amazing year with some super hit and blockbuster movies doing outstandingly well at the box office. Many actors and actresses were appreciated for their roles, but what stole the hearts and eyes of the audience was the actors who were in the supporting role in the films.
Jim Sarbh as the loyal slave general in Padmaavat, Aparshakti Khurrana as the witty wannabe Bittu in Stree or Gajraj Rao as the loving and a caring husband and Surekha Sikri as the angry and caring mom-in-law in Badhaai Ho. All these roles and the actors stole our hearts away with their acting skill.
Atul Mohan, the trade analyst said,
“The best thing about them is that these actors definitely know how to make their roles impactful. They know how to create an impression on the audience so that even after they have left the theatres, discussion about their roles does not end. They understand the script better and do a fabulous job whenever they get the right opportunity. There was a time when actors would be scared to work with Mehmood in a film as he would steal the show.”
Gajraj says that he feels as if he is still living a dream, after the success of Badhaai Ho. Appreciation has been pouring in from all corners and overseas too. He says that whenever he steps out of his house, people come up to him and congratulate him for the superb movie. He says,
“I still can’t believe what this film has done to me. But I guess I was flying too high and then my wife (Sanjana Rao) decided to pull me back to reality and gave me a time frame to enjoy my new found fame and then forget it.”
Vicky Kaushal too received immense love from the fans and even the critics for his role as Kamlesh Kanhaiyalal. He said
“So much love was coming from everywhere that it somehow made one thing clear that meaty roles that add to the plot always get noticed.”
Amit Sharma, the director of a global hit movie Badhaai Ho was asked about his decision to cast Gajraj, Neena, and Surekha in the film. So he said that he was looking for a relatable father who wasn’t as fit and a mother who could act like a typical mother and create even more ruckus in the movie after knowing about the unexpected pregnancy.
Aparshakti was seen in Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree. He said,
“I won’t take the credit for Bittu. Stree worked in totality because everyone is good in the film. Also, I am never concerned about the length of my role, the character is important. After watching Parched I had messaged Leena [Yadav] about my keenness of working with her in a film in any capacity. She remembered me and I, my words. The reason why I am happy every time people are praising me for Baljeet in Rajma Chawal.”
Such a discussion brings us to think about whether the film really depends only on the lead actors only? Or the supporting and the lead actors together share the credit for a film being a super hit among the audience.
